Caffè Greco is a new place that livens up the Square of Caprarica di Lecce. The name recalls the one of the magazine that Antonio L. Verri had started publishing in 1979 for a couple of years and that gathered avant-garde literary experiences with the purpose of giving a voice to those who didn’t have a public and arguing with the publishing establishment of the north and the academic one as well. This poetic manifesto continued with a market exhibition of poem books that Antonio called “Al banco di Caffè Greco” (at the counter of Caffè Greco) and in 1882 with a folio in tabloid format, Il Pensionante dei Saraceni, which started with this manifesto:” Make pages of poems, poets.” “What we want to give you is an encounter into which everything good and alive in our Salento can flow”. These are the words that opened the magazine and this vision livens up Caffè Greco today. It’s a place to meet, to gather, to tell. In the Square, for a good ice-cream, a “literary cocktail”, a cup of coffee. In winter and in summer musical events, theatrical plays, books presentations follow each other.
